The Association  holds a Convention for its members every two years, providing an opportunity for members to meet, share ideas and enter their models in competitions.

Recently, conventions have been held at Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire, at Enkhuizen in Holland,  at Hartlepool, in Bristol, Portsmouth, Windermere, Gloucester and Barnstaple,  and in 2014, at Buckler’s Hard in Hampshire.

There are usually several different competition categories for members' models:  In 2014  there were special categories for models of Nelson’s time, Gipsy Moth IV and the SS Persia.
